"Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex." -- The Equal Rights Amendment, authored by Alice Paul and proposed in 1923, remains unratified. Alice Paul lived in the Sewall-Belmont House for 43 years. She was the National Woman's Party founder and a suffragist leader.
